Benefits of Black Tea

Many tea drinkers assume that black tea contains no milk, but that’s hardly the case. Black tea originates from the same plant as green tea, with the difference being that it is more oxidized, and distinctly processed. The processing stage includes a combination of kneading, mixing and drying, which is the sole reason for the variation in color. Green tea contains Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is a powerful antioxidant, and a known remedy for a number of health disorders, but this doesn’t imply that black tea is not steeped in health benefits.

Before we get into the benefits of black tea, let’s take a look at the characteristics that distinguish the differences between them. Tea is derived from the Camellia Sinesis plant, and is categorized by its fermentation or oxidation levels. Oxidization is prevented in green tea by baking, frying or steaming it, and is why the leaves do not change color. On the contrary, black tea is completely oxidized, which changes the original color of the leaves to brown. This oxidization process eradicates the antioxidant EGCG by transforming them into thearubigens and theaflavins. These elements combined not only help black tea achieve its rich and dark flavor, but all contribute to its list of health benefits.

Heart and Stroke Disease:
Black tea tends to relax the body and clear the path for the arteries, which in return improves blood circulation. Studies prove that black tea drinkers are less inclined to stroke and heart diseases than non-tea drinkers.

Cancer Prevention:
Black tea is rich in TF-2 (theaflavin-3-monogallate), which is a compound known to resist cancer cells, specifically colon cancer.

Prevents Tooth Decay:
The Fluorin element present in black tea combined with calcium in the tooth work together to strengthen the enamel and fight cavities.

Black tea tends to lower glucose levels, which ensures that health disorders such as cataracts are kept to a minimum.

There is no reason to prove which tea is better, but studies do prove that tea is rich in a number of health properties, which are much more than it being just a relaxing hot beverage.
