There’s nothing better to quench the summer’s heat than a cold, frosty tall glass of ice tea, and whipping up a satisfying pitcher takes no more than 5 minutes. Bottled or factory produced iced tea is definitely a quick fix, but doesn’t let you to enjoy the brew your way, meaning controlling the sugars or simply the ingredients.

The first rule that must be followed diligently is not to skimp on the tea bags in order for the iced tea to remain strong. There are two ways to increase the potency of the tea; one is discussed above, and the other is to steep the tea over longer periods.

For the best flavor, use fresh lemons rather than concentrated lemon juice since iced tea is best served with fresh ingredients. Listed below are a few simple recipes to make the perfect iced tea.


Traditional Iced Tea Recipe

    Ingredients:
  • Sugar syrup or sugar to taste
  • Half gallon water
  • Half gallon iced water
  • 10 /black tea blend tea bags/ Orange pekoe

      Directions:
    • Bring the water to a boil
    • Remove from heat and add the teabags
    • Allow the teabags to steep for 5-7 minutes
    • Filter the teabags and discard
    • Add sugar to hot tea and mix well
    • Allow the brew to sit at room temperature for 5-7 minutes before refrigerating
    • Garnish the drink when cold over ice


      Boston Iced Tea

        Ingredients:
      • 12 tea bags
      • 8 cups Water
      • 8 spoons white sugar
      • 1 can of frozen cranberry juice

          Directions:
        • Heat the water until it reaches a boil
        • Add the sugar and stir vigorously until completely dissolved
        • Add the teabags and steep the mix until desired strength is achieved
        • Add the cranberry juice and allow it to cool


          Raspberry Iced Tea

            Ingredients:
          • 10 cups of water
          • ½ cup sugar
          • 5-6 unsweetened raspberries
          • 6 tea bags

              Directions
            • Bring the 5 cups of water to a boil and add the sugar
            • Remove from heat and steep the tea bags for 4-8 minutes
            • Remove the teabags and add 5 cups of water
            • In another pan, add the remaining water with the raspberries and bring to a boil
            • Simmer for approximately 5-6 minutes and discard the pulp
            • Add the juice to the tea mix and serve chilled
