Black & Decker
CM4000S Coffee Maker

Question:

Is the digital display on my new Black & Decker Model CM4000S coffee maker supposed to be illuminated? It isn't. The instruction sheet uses words like: "illuminates" and "flashes" but the only light on the unit is the ON/OFF button. I can barely read the clock or other words on the display. Thanks.

Answer:
Since this is a new item, there isn't much information on it. But I did find a listing of the features of this coffee maker. I couldn't find any mention of illuminates or flashes. It did say it was an LED display, which should be illuminated as that is how they work. The LED is a light emitting diode, so in order to see the display, it would have to be illuminated. If you can see the display, then it is being illuminated. However, if you can barely see it, you should probably return it. It should be easy to read, and well lighted, not dim. As for the flashing, that is probably like when the power goes out and you are seeing flashing numbers to let you know it needs to be set up again.

Here are some of the other features of the Black & Decker CM4000:
  • Brew strength selector
  • Programmable clock
  • Auto brew
  • Speed brew technology
  • 2 hour automatic shutoff
  • Water tank
  • Water reservoir that is easy to fill
  • Parts are dishwasher safe
  • Automatic cleaning system
  • Duralife carafe
  • Sneak-a-Cup feature
  • Warming plate that is non-stick and stain resistant
  • Filter basket is removable
  • Nata filter ready
  • Two year limited warranty
  • Built-in cord storage
  • Unit and carafe has stainless steel accents

    Beep NEW
    by: Tom Madracki

I just bought my second one, the first one had gotten a little crusty over the years. The only difference I can notice is that the BEEP when the coffee finishes has been removed. It says it beeps after a cleaning cycle, but not at the end of a normal brew cycle. $33 at Walmart.

    Clock display NEW
    by: Renee

I am pleased with the coffee it makes, and the beep does not annoy me. I found the manual on-line, it was not hard to locate, as I went on Google for Black and Decker Coffee Maker manual. I have the CM4000S model and am just disappointed that the clock does not light up, but will not return it for that issue - I have other clocks in the house.

    Display time NEW
    by: Anonymous

I can't believe it ! You pay $30+ to hear a beep every morning and not be able to see the time. I have always purchased Black & Decker coffee makers and I can hardly wait until I need a new coffee maker. I am not sure if it will be a Black and Decker again.

Background display has no light NEW
    by: Disgusted with CM4000S

Just bought the B&D CM4000S today, 6/11/2013 after returning a Faberware 12 machine to Walmart. The display light does not work. Has not made one cup of coffee yet. Will return tomorrow. What a piece of junk.

Makes good coffee but that loud beep really makes you mad before your first cup. Took it apart to disable it and it can't! Install ear plugs then shoot it with shot gun after it makes a pot of coffee.

    Get your earplugs NEW
    by: Coaster

Don't stand too close to the unit when it finishes brewing or you'll be deafened by the blast from the beeper alert. There does not appear to be a way to muffle it or disable it.

Got what wife paid for NEW
    by: Stan

The coffee maker is about three months old. I agree with the LED has no back light and when "auto" is set I have to stoop and bend around to see if display implies "AUTO" is displayed. The writing on the button you push to set the AUTO has worn completely off. The HOT PLATE coating is already pealing off, and I cannot find a web site to find a user manual.

    display NEW
    by: menolike

The display is not lit. Unfortunately, Black and Decker didn't think it important enough to placed a light on the "LCD" display. They should have used an LED display in which case they wouldn't need a light. But, anything to save a penny. Thus, no light, no see anything in a dark environment. Shame.

    Display

Can barely see my display also. I did see another model that didn't list model number that said it had a blue lighted display. I guess they realized they used the wrong type of light and have now changed it on a later model

    Dark display
    by: Anonymous

I came here with the same concern: I can barely see the display. Sounds like that may be the way it's designed. The first pot of coffee I made was good, but I'm reluctant to keep the thing if it's always going to be hard to read the time, etc.
