Roasts Versus Boldness

by Kim
(SC)

Question:
I am trying to distinguish the difference between extra bold - bold and type of roast - from medium to dark. Is there a difference in caffeine levels? What makes something dark roast versus degree of 'boldness?'

Answers:
Bold: Has an intense, full body, rich and robust flavor
Extra Bold: Pertains to the overall flavor of the beverage

Is there a difference in caffeine levels? No
Lower altitude grown coffee beans have less caffeine than beans grown at high altitudes.

Type of roast - from medium to dark:
Lighter roasts are sweeter
Medium roasts are more complex
Dark roasts are more earthy and sometimes slightly bitter
