Side Effects of Coffee

It is good to wake up, smelling the wonderful aroma of the coffee beans or the powder in the coffee maker. A cup of coffee can really boost your energy and keep you fresh to complete the remaining tasks of the day in an effective way. But do you know about the side effects of coffee?

The side effects can vary from the mild effects to serious issues. When you drink in moderate quantities, it does not lead to drastic problems. But when coffee is consumed excessively, it leads to diarrhea and facial flushing. There are some people, who have reported other symptoms like excessive urination. The body of each individual will react to a different extent to the same dose of caffeine. Thus the symptoms cannot be generalized. It is not so difficult to give up the addiction of drinking coffee. Try switching to one or 2 cups a day at first. Or you can switch over to green tea, as an alternative, in order to cut down daily intake of coffee with its high level of caffeine per cup.

The side effects of coffee include withdrawal symptoms. When a person, who usually drinks 3 to 4 cup of coffee each day, reduces it to once a day, he might be facing withdrawal problems like headaches. Too much intake of caffeine can lead to problems in the nervous system. While still drinking coffee the addicted person can show symptoms like anxiety, agitation, depression, digestive disorders, irritation of gastrointestinal tract, general tiredness, dizziness, increase in heart beat and so on. Other serious symptoms include bed wetting and lack of concentration. It might also lead to some deficiency in nutrients and increase the blood pressure. Cholesterol levels might also rise to a great extent.

Caffeine withdrawal symptoms include constipation, vomiting, stomach cramps, nervous breakdown, craving for more sips of coffee, sleep disturbances, apathy and runny nose. To avoid withdrawal symptoms, intake must be reduced gradually.
